This trick works because the balloon isn’t equally stretched out everywhere — and the color is a clue. Most of the balloon is lighter in color than it was before you started blowing it up, which shows how stretched and thin the material is. If you skewer the balloon there, the teeniest hole will get pulled into a big POP!
However, the tied-off end and the little nub opposite are much less stretched out. With less tension in the material, it’s possible to make a tiny hole that isn’t immediately pulled into a big one. With the skewer filling the hole, the air inside the balloon stays put and you’ve demonstrated an unpoppable balloon!
