This is another video in my series “ New Forest Walks” accompanied by my Whippet (Logan). In this episode, I take a walk that is promoted by the New Forest National Park as the Tatchbury Mount Trail. Tatchbury Mount lies on the edge of Totton, close to Netley Marsh, just West of Southampton.

I park my car at the Hanger Farm Arts Centre in Totton (free parking) – on old dairy farm that was converted to an Arts Centre in 2005. I initially head North West across some open grassland towards a residential area and make my way through Mansergh Walk, down Stonechat Drive, cross Michegan Way into Garland Way, then Oleander Drive & finally to Corylus Court. Here, I take a gravel track that goes under the A326 and brings me into the New Forest National Park.

The remainder of the route is well signposted as I head West along an ancient track, past the lost Medieval village of Tatchbury to Tatchbury Manor where I head North along a tarmac road.

Upon reaching Tatchbury Manor Farm, I head Eastwards through the delightful Tatchbury Copse to the Western side of Tatchbury Mount – which once had an Iron Age Hill Fort.

I follow the footpath around the Mount, with the banks & terrace still easily identifiable. On the South of the Mount, there are some superb views across to Southampton on the other side of Southampton Water.

My homeward leg takes me downhill from the Fort, to the A326 underpass where I retrace my steps back to the Hanger Farm Arts Centre – where I enjoy a cup of coffee in the cafe.

The video was filmed in late Autumn and the colours of the foliage on the trees was quite beautiful.
