Returning for its third year, LUMA is pleased to continue its partnership with L.A. Dance Project, a Los Angeles-based artist collective founded in 2012 by choreographer and dancer Benjamin Millepied.
L.A. Dance Project’s Summer program includes new works by Benjamin Millepied and guest choreographer Kyle Abraham, which will be performed for the first time outdoors, in the open-air courtyard of Les Forges at the Parc des Ateliers.
This year, the performers will be in residence for the first time at ‘La Formation’ in the Parc des Ateliers, the third building recently renovated by Selldorf Architects.
La Formation is conceived as an artists’ residence, rehearsal and performance space of 14,680 square feet (1,364 m2).
Members of the public will also be invited to attend the company’s dance rehearsals at the new performing arts space La Formation.

Bach Studies (Part 1), by Benjamin Millepied (2018)
This is the latest work from L.A. Dance Project's Artistic Director, Benjamin Millepied. Inspired by the depth and complexity of Johann Sebastian Bach's music, Millepied explores the Partita for Violin No. 2 in D Minor by applying the compositional techniques of counterpoint, fugue, and canon to choreography.
Featuring costumes by long-time LADP collaborator, Alessandro Sartori, Bach Studies (Part 1) masterfully translates music into movement, resulting in a work that is at once technically sophisticated, delicate and emotionally compelling.
Chapter Song, by Kyle Abraham (2018)
Created in close collaboration with LADP Company dancers, Chapter Song is a series of constantly shifting vignettes that explore the textures and sensations of transition.
Set to an eclectic playlist, the sonic experience of Chapter Song aims to disrupt expectations and juxtapose the serious with the comedic - the public with the personal. Much like the changing of channels, this dynamic work moves quickly allowing for unexpected connections and discovery.
