There's a nationwide brigade aimed at fighting back against robocalls. On a typical day, how many robocalls do you receive? Could be as little as none, or as many as 10. Either way, most of the calls are unwanted.
Now there's a nationwide effort to fight back against fake home security scammers, fake Microsoft tech support scammers, we've heard it all.
Two hundred people across the U.S. were selected as volunteers to test robocalls blockers. The job: Monitor how well robocalls get blocked, whether calls the volunteer wants can get through, and whether the device is user friendly.
"If it thinks it's a robocall, it blocks it. It doesn't send it through," said volunteer Fred Dawn. "I'm so looking forward to this thing. Mmm! No more robocalls would be wonderful!"
Fred said the device has blocked two robocalls every day this week. No scams are getting through and all his legit calls are getting through. He'll document the experience for another week.
Consumer's Union will review the results from him and the rest of the testers.
