How's it going, neighbors This is Ed here with etrailer.com and we're taking a look at the Yakima CoreBar roof rack on our 2024 Kia Forte. Now adding a roof rack to a vehicle, kind of like a compact sedan like this, is going to allow you to get more cargo area out your smaller vehicle. You can take advantage of this negative space on top of your car to get those bigger bulkier items out on the road for your adventure. Adding CoreBars to the top of your Kia is going to allow you to add accessories like this roof basket, rooftop bike carriers, kayak carriers. It's going to open you up to a wider variety of things you can do with your vehicle. As far as the height on these guys from the roof, looks like we're right at three and three quarter inches as far as the space, so that's going to give you plenty of room for most clamp around accessories.
And the CoreBar itself is actually an arrow bar. So what that means for you is that it's going to wrap through the wind a lot easier, meaning, and it's going to give you a better ride. So it'll cut down on that whistle that you tend to get from roof racks in general. Our bar is right at three inches wide. And let's take a little bit closer look at our tower itself.
The Timberline towers are going to have a fit kit that's contoured to fit the roof of your Kia Forte, and the outside panel here, it just basically squeezes over and allows you to access for installation. Now out of the box, it does not come with a key, but it does have a spot to use the Yakima Key System lock core. And if you want to get that lock, you can actually have a key to like for any of your Yakima accessories, like the skinny warrior that I have installed right now. Alternatively, if you have accessories that use a track or T-slots or something like that, this wouldn't be the best option. But if you have a rooftop tent and everything is within the weight capacities, CoreBar is going to be a great way to go.
Now installation's super easy, it's just a lot of steps to it. So grab a tape measure and you're going to use your included Yakima tool and I'll show you how to get it on top of your Forte. We're going to start our installation by assembling our baseline tower and making sure that we have our CoreBar adapter on our tower, and that's going to allow us to make that connection to the bar. So out of the package, we're going to make a change for the adapter kit that's in here, and you're just going to press right here on the sides. You'll be able to unhook from the bottom of your foot.
So from here you're going to pull out this gray point and expose the hardware in here. Grab your included Yakima tool and you're just going to unscrew and then you're going to change out the cradle. Now the cradle itself just pops out and you're going to need to put in your CoreBar cradle. So you just want to make sure when you're installing your adapter, you're keeping the orientation in mind as far as which side is going to be front and back in relation to the foot itself. So this is going to install the way the other one came out. You don't want to go all the way in because this is what actually presses against the bar, but just enough to grab a couple threads in, and then you're good to go with that. Now we're going to put our base plate on. You want to make sure that the cutout part is going to point away from the vehicle because that's where your clamp is going to install once you have it on the roof. And you just push it in, let it snap into place. And now, you have your assembly put together. So from here, I'm going to show yo
