N'avoue jamais is a song written by Françoise Dorin and composed and performed by Guy Mardel, released on 45 rpm in 1965.
Guy Mardel also recorded this song in Spanish and Italian, respectively under the titles Jamás, jamás (“Never, never”) and Non dire mai (“Never say”).
The song provides a few words of advice to young men, Guy Mardel insistently suggests that they never confess their feelings to their loved ones. He states that “you have to sow doubt to reap love”, in other words, suitors, to win the desired hearts, will benefit from not showing their feelings too openly.
It is the song representing France in the Eurovision Song Contest 1965 which took place in Naples, Italy.
After voting, it received 22 points, placing third out of eighteen songs.
GUY MARDEL:
Born June 30, 1944 in Oran, from a jewish family. Guy Mardel, whose real name is Mardochée ElKoubi, was quickly attracted to the world of music. His pronounced taste for this art was illustrated by a resounding victory at just fifteen years old, when he won first prize in piano at the Oran Conservatory. An impressive accomplishment for such a young age, already revealing the beginnings of his undeniable talent.
In 1959, he decided to cross the Mediterranean to settle in France. His goal was to pursue legal studies. However, despite this academic orientation, music never really leaves his mind or his heart. It remains, in fact, at the center of his passions, like a persistent melody that never stops playing.
The beginning of the 1960s marked a turning point in his life. Guy Mardel truly embarks on a musical career by joining a jazz orchestra. This experience allowed him to refine his technique, explore new musical genres and familiarize himself with the stage. His passion, dedication and talent do not go unnoticed.
In 1963, his career took off meteorically with “Le twist du bac”, a title he wrote for Claudine Coppin. This song brought him sudden and well-deserved notoriety. Audiences are beginning to recognize and appreciate Guy Mardel's unique voice and distinctive musical style. This is only the beginning of his incredible musical journey, which will lead him to represent France in the biggest international competitions.
