COLUMBUS (WCMH) -- Concertgoers will finally be able to hear the violin, once owned and played by Niccolo Paganini, on Wednesday.
The Columbus Symphony Orchestra held its final rehearsal before the show, on Tuesday. There, concertmaster Joanna Frankel practiced with her own violin, although she will play the famed instrument on Wednesday.
“I will be playing five different pieces on the instrument, as a soloist,” Frankel explained.
Frankel was able to rehearse with the violin on Monday, and she is scheduled to practice with it again prior to Wednesday’s performance.
The violin is also known as “Il Cannone,” which translates to the “the cannon.”
“I have played a powerful instrument, of course, nothing really to the fame of Paganini’s ‘cannon’ violin,” Frankel said. “For me, the biggest difference is really the power and how much power you can evoke from the instrument with very little effort.”
The significance of Wednesday’s concert is not lost on the performer.
“I’m excited, I’m nervous and I’m grateful to all the people that made this happen,” she said. “I’m just there so people can hear the violin. It’s a very special honor.”
According to a spokeswoman with the orchestra, Wednesday’s concert is sold out.
