Dr. John Loonam has been teaching English in New York City public schools for 30 years. He received his MA in creative writing from CCNY in 1989 and a PhD from The CUNY Graduate Center in 2004. He has published essays in The English Journal and fiction in a number of journals. His short story "Say a Few Words" was nominated for a Pushcart Prize in 2009. His short play "Gin" appeared in the anthology, Cherry Picking.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
