The dreaded MCAT is the most important test in determining whether or not you'll have the opportunity to attend medical school and become a doctor. With this weight comes a great deal of myths and misconceptions that continue to be perpetuated today. Here's what I wish someone had told me about the MCAT.

More time studying for the MCAT doesn't always mean you're going to get a better score on test day. The MCAT tests not only your knowledge, but also your application of information, test taking strategies, and critical reasoning. I recommend you study during the summer to position yourself for the best MCAT score. This allows you to truly focus on just the MCAT without being pulled in other directions from courses during your regular quarters or semesters.
A big part of sticking to the plan comes down to accountability. It's natural to deviate slightly from your MCAT plan, but you want to minimize that deviation. Accountability is a powerful tool to keep you on track.
When planning out your MCAT study schedule and strategy, don't take on too many resources than you can handle. Everyone should focus on AAMC official prep materials and high quality content resources, such as Memm and UWorld, but don't spread yourself too thin. Also understand there is an opportunity cost of time and money, and making your own flashcards with Anki may not be the best use of your time compared to using something like Memm.
