Throughout history, there have been tales of kings and queens having absolute power of rule over their subjects. Autocratic and monstrous rulers like Ivan The Terrible and Richard II did some atrocious acts during their reign.

But thankfully today, most monarchies are mainly ceremonial. Most western monarchs don’t have absolute rule anymore and their citizens are not peasants and serfs anymore.

Even the most famous monarch today Queen Elizabeth II has rules that she has to follow. It’s of course not limiting rules, she still lives a charmed life but the rules she follows are actually to maintain her image and role in government.
