On November 20, 2021, the City of San Antonio World Heritage Office celebrated corn as a traditional ingredient in many local foods and San Antonio as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy. The event, held at historic Mission Marquee Plaza, was part of a multi-city series on corn, "Pueblos del Maiz," hosted by four Creative Cities: San Antonio, TX; Tucson, Arizona; Merida and Puebla, Mexico. San Antonio's event featured food tastings and demonstrations, make-and-take art projects, pop-up vendors, music, film screenings, and more - all focused on corn and food culture.
