Inere is a refugee from bordering Mali. She lives in the Mbera camp in Mauritania with her husband and children: “The main problem for the children is the lack of milk. As I don’t have any money, I have to sell some of the rice from the distribution to buy milk.”
The first Malian refugees arrived in Mauritania in 2012, fleeing the conflict beween the national army and opposing Tuareg rebels. There are now close to 50,000 people in the Mbera camp. While the humanitarian situation is gradually improving, availability of food remains a major concern.
