This is An All-American Sailboat - a 1981 Custom Joel White Ketch, named ALISANDE. Joel White, son of American author, E.B. White (Charlotte's Web, Stuart Little, among others), was a prolific yacht designer, naval architect, and boat builder who was considered to be one of the country's foremost designers of wooden boats. She embodies a harmonious blend of design and craftsmanship from Brooklin Boat Yard, which Joel founded back in the early 1960s. Constructed based on the William Hand designed FUNDULUS, as detailed in Roger Taylor’s “Good Boats,” ALISANDE stands as a testament to both artistry and functionality.
Despite her modest size of 36 feet, ALISANDE proves to be a highly capable ocean and coastal cruiser. A sister ship embarked on a voyage to the Pacific Islands and back, navigated by the owner accompanied by his wife and two young children.
Noteworthy for its exceptional balance, ALISANDE effortlessly sails on any point of sail with winds exceeding five knots, making the Autohelm 4000 practically redundant except in flat calm conditions. Recent upgrades include the replacement of all sails within the past eight years, and the installation of a new Yanmar 3YGM engine in 2019.
ALISANDE boasts a seaworthy and well-built design, providing a comfortable cruising experience. Maintenance is relatively straightforward, promising the next owner years of dependable service.
