I decided to rough out what the backing music might sound like with Paul F Tompkins's improvised song. He was part of this game where they give the contestants a fake movie title and they have to come up with the plot and a theme song. Usually Paul would construct the plot and Aimee Mann would come up with a theme song. In this instance, Paul used a wild card to switch the roles, so Aimee had to come up with the plot and Paul would do the song, a cappella. I grabbed this off of Paul's podcast, which is a favorite of mine. If Mister Rogers and Peewee Herman had a love child, Paul F Tompkins would adopt it and dip it in candy. Put yourself in the mind-space of an adopted child dipped in candy. This is the podcast experience Paul creates. Old-timey candy, created by somebody who doesn't understand kids today, and then purchased by Paul F Tompkins for consensually dipping a child in.
My attempt to add tracks to Paul's song was an uncommitted attempt to follow an improvisation that was not intended to be followed by musicians, so it has a rough start. I used several tracks of acoustic guitar, which I had to tune a little sharp because Paul didn't use a tuning fork before he started (not that anyone should in that situation). He was in the best key for this kind of thing: G. I wonder how that happened. For the bass part, I used acoustic guitar and pitch shifted down an octave in post production. I think the effect sounds similar to upright bass. ...dipped in candy.
