A North Korean missile landed for the first time in South Korean seas, prompting an unusual air raid alert for residents of an eastern island and outrage in Seoul.
The missile, one of at least ten launched on Wednesday morning, was spotted by South Korea's military and the Japanese coast guard and fell fewer than 60 kilometers (37 miles) off the coast of South Korea.
The launches occurred hours after Pyongyang urged the United States and South Korea to cease their large-scale military games, claiming that "military haste and provocations can no longer be accepted."
