The Italian concert for organ and cello by the duo Sr. Cecilia Pia Manelli and Lucia D’Anna was a great adventure, from start to finish, an experience that, thank God, was happily resolved and that you can now watch. In fact, how to organize the traditional concert of the Terra Sancta Organ Festival (TSOF) in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute and the Fondazione Terra Santa of Milan this year 2020 in Tel Aviv - Jaffa?
In fact, due to the pandemic, not only could it not be possible to organize events with more than ten people indoors, but it was impossible to obtain permits to bring musicians from Italy, as well as from any other country. As for the possibility of the concert, it could be done without an audience, recorded and put on the internet thanks to the collaboration of the Christian Media Center. But how about the musicians? The only way was to look for them in the area. But would it have been possible to find professional level Italian musicians (including an organist) in Israel and Palestine?
As often happens, the solution is found in one's home, that is, in this case, in the Custody of the Holy Land, the institution based in Jerusalem and which manages the Terra Sancta Organ Festival. Thus we discovered that the talented organist of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem, Sr. Cecilia Pia Manelli, had a very respectable curriculum of studies and concerts and that Lucia D'Anna, the cello teacher at the Magnificat Institute of Jerusalem (the music conservatory of the Custody of the Holy Land) had been for a long time the cello of the “La Verdi” Symphony Orchestra of Milan. The two Italian musicians accepted our invitation and we thank them very much, also because the result was excellent.
It's all
OK? Problems solved? Absolutely not. The night before the concert we are informed that the cameramen who were supposed to film the concert will not be there, because they have been quarantined. However, somehow in the end we made it. The concert was recorded on September 16, 2020, in the church of St. Peter in Jaffa (Tel Aviv) and now you can watch our “Italian concert”. Below is the program, but first here's an important announcement:
