Third Wave Volunteer's medical team visited the Wayuu tribe in late April 2023 where tribal leaders told us their families usually have 6-8 children, but due to the lack of food and water, they can only afford to feed a few of them leaving the others to die.
The Wayuu tribes live in the very dry northern Colombian desert region of La Guajira, where many babies and children are dying of malnutrition and lack of water. Over the past four months, -40 babies and young children have died from malnutrition, and 525 were diagnosed with malnutrition (just in a small area -not counting the whole region.)
