The Scott Volumeter can be used for Bulk Density testing of fine powders and complies to both USP 616 and Ph. Eur. 2.9.34. It comprises of a funnel with 18 mesh screen, or optionally a 10 mesh screen, baffle box with 4 inclined glass plates and a 25.0 ml receiving cup. The powder flows through the mesh, slides and bounces across the glass plates before being collected in the receiving cup. The cup is weighed before and after the analysis to determine the bulk density.



Comparing the bulk and tapped density of powders would provide information on powder flowability (Hausner Ratio) and compressibility.
