“Colorism” looks at the role of colorism in society today, as it pertains to the remnants of racism in post-colonial countries. Jordyn uses her own personal experiences, as well as statistical data, to show how colorism impacts the lives of people of color. Colorism is important in understanding how systemic racism is still involved in our social institutions, and how damaging a preference for lighter skin is. Jordyn emphasizes that educating oneself on colorism and being an advocate for change is important in combating the social justice issues we face. Jordyn Baker is a senior at West Campus High School.
