A visit to The Basilica of St. Patrick's Old Cathedral in Nolita, NYC.

The Basilica of Saint Patrick's Old Cathedral, sometimes shortened to St. Patrick's Old Cathedral or simply Old St. Patrick's, is a Catholic parish church, basilica, and the former cathedral of the Archdiocese of New York. June 2022.

We took a tour. You can not enter the cemetery or the catacombs unless you're on tour. The tour was interesting but pricey at $37/adult. I would have liked to have wandered through the cemetery a bit more. You were only able to go into the cemetery by 20-30 feet. However, there was wandering time in the catacombs.

Tidbits:
-The catacombs had a few famous New Yorkers, including the Delmonico Family. Delmonico's restaurant has been credited with inventing eggs benedict, wedge salad, Delmonico potatoes, chicken à la king, baked Alaska (which was referred to as Alaska Florida), Delmonico steak, and lobster newberg.

-The baptism scene in The Godfather was filmed in the old Cathedral, as was the scene in The Godfather Part III in which Michael Corleone receives an honor from the church. Martin Scorsese's Mean Streets with Robert DeNiro and Harvey Keitel used the graveyard.

- Old St. Patrick's is Manhattan's only Catholic catacombs and cemetery, and it was New York's first Cathedral.
