A HOLLYWOOD hotshot who first made his name in advertising and music videos, director Tarsem Singh Dhandwar shows an extremely deft hand with his latest film, the powerful and unforgettable ‘Dear Jassi’.
Shot in Punjab, India it features the romance between Mithu (Yugam Sood) and Jassi (Pavia Sidhu) and is something of a ‘Romeo and Juliet’ tale played out between Punjab and Canada (where Jassi lives).
Dhadwar tells us that this film was inspired by him reading about a phone call – the actual call takes place towards the end of the film.

It then came and played to packed houses at the London Film Festival.
This is a film that will stay with you long after you have seen it and if you get the opportunity to view – don’t turn it down – though it is not easy viewing as he explains in the interview.

‘Dear Jassi’ has not yet secured distribution in the UK but we fully expect it to in 2024 – do comment beneath and help bring it to the UK.
Dhandwar is a fascinating artist and talks about how he went about casting and what his main motivations were in making this film.
He first announced himself in Hollywood with ‘The Cell’ (2000) with Jennifer Lopez and then more recently ‘Immortals’ (2017) with Henry Cavill and Freida Pinto and the NBC TV series, ‘Emerald City’ (2017).
