Take US Dollars along and you can then convert USD to LKR in Sri Lanka (Pinnawala recommended). Or else check with your driver. He can take you to local vendors. You are likely to get a better rate if you convert USD to LKR. Also, carry some INR and your debit cards also usually work in some places (in case of emergency)
Food: If you are a curry rice or fried rice fan, you can survive. Sea food is good, but only in selective places. Do not drink regular water. Buy packaged drinking water from super markets that you see on your way. 80 LKR for 1.5 ltr bottle.
Sim Card: Dialog Sim is good and take a usual pack. You can read charge later if you want.
Tip: People expect tip even if they say bless you on your sneeze and mind you they don't want a small tip. #srilankadiaries
Outfits: Sri Lanka's temperature is a bit hot and humid throughout the year. But Nuwara Eliya is like a hill station. Temperature ranges between 16-18 degree C at night. So packing a Hoodie is a good idea. Sunscreen and shades (maybe a hat/cap) is going to save you for sure.
