We have all heard it before - “A glass of red wine a day is good for your heart!” We may even use this as an excuse for drinking - but is it true? Or just a myth that the marketing machine continues to push on us?
The answer: myth. The World Heart Federation recently released a new policy brief saying that no amount of alcohol is good for the heart.
Experts say that drinking alcohol can lead to an irregular heartbeat, increased risk of heart attack, as well as increased risk of cardiomyopathy.
Studies show that excessive drinking can lead to irregular heart rhythms, which can contribute to issues like decreased exercise tolerance, heart failure, and clotting disorders.
Excessive alcohol consumption has also been linked to an increased risk of a heart attack. It can increase your blood pressure, which increases the risk of a heart attack.
The next time someone tries to tell you that wine is good for the heart, remember that is nothing but a myth!
