This program in Indonesia seeks to prevent local/transboundary toxic haze from peatland fires, together with the resultant toll on biodiversity, through supporting a transformative process, one that includes the development of an efficient and integrated peatland restoration model in 159 villages. The program aims to revitalize livelihoods by promoting alternative peatland-based and environmentally sustainable income-generating activities to ensure communities thrive while peatland restoration takes place. Among its main components are: the facilitation of a transparent, publicly-available online peatland restoration monitoring tool; the delivery of local governance capacitation and initiatives to create or increase livelihood streams and household incomes; and the development of a mobile app that permits individuals to critique and provide feedback to the national Peatland Restoration Agency (BRG) concerning its activities.
