On November 24, 2024, a tragic accident occurred at approximately 4:14 AM on the R40 road in Riverside, Mbombela, South Africa. A Mercedes-Benz sedan collided with an articulated truck at the intersection of the R40 and R37. The female passenger of the Mercedes-Benz died instantly, while the male driver was transported to a hospital in critical condition and later succumbed to his injuries. CCTV footage of the incident shows the Mercedes-Benz traveling at high speed before T-boning the truck as it was turning onto the R37.
