Title: Geochemically barcoding the basaltic stratigraphy of the Kalgoorlie region
Abstract: GSWA’s greenstone geochemical barcode for the Kalgoorlie region of the Eastern Goldfields (Yilgarn Craton) provides a tool that will allow explorers to establish where in the regional or local basaltic stratigraphy geochemical samples with little other geological context are from. Our data show that the basaltic chemostratigraphy follows a common regional evolutionary pattern, but shows complexity in detail that appears to ignore established greenstone domain boundaries. Instead, ‘western’ and ‘eastern’ domain groups are separated along structures (parts of the Zuleika-Abattoir-Bardoc systems in the early stages and the Zuleika at the later stage) that are the surface expression of contrasting lithospheric architecture.
