Fresh from the archives! 20 years ago, on Oct. 5, 1991, we made the historic move from the 100-year-old Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover to the state-of-the-art, million-square-foot Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, 10 minutes away in Lebanon, and said goodbye to our old home.
The logistically mind-boggling move was carried out in nine hours. We transported 228 patients in ambulances and mobile ICUs. 26 moving vans carried 40,000 cartons and 5 million pounds of equipment. (Most of the former hospital complex was demolished in 1995.)
