Thousands of people have gathered at an Invasion Day rally at the Domain in Sydney despite public health orders prohibiting groups of more than 500.
The organisers of the rally made an 11th hour bid for an exemption from the public health orders saying they contacted NSW Police Minister David Elliott and NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard many times without a response.
NSW Police Minister David Elliott told Sky News on Monday the organisers did not file the appropriate paperwork, but arrests have not yet been made despite threats there could be fines or imprisonment if groups were too large.
