The Indian women's national football team, the Blue Tigresses, erupted onto the international stage under the guidance of their newly appointed Swedish coach, Joakim Alexandersson, with a resounding 14-0 demolition of the Maldives at the prestigious Padukone-Dravid Centre for Sports Excellence today.
The emphatic victory, the first of two friendlies scheduled against the Maldives (the second on January 2nd), showcased the team's potent attacking prowess and the exciting blend of youth and experience under the new regime.
Eight players were handed their international debuts by Alexandersson, and the impact was immediate. Three debutants emerged as stars of the show, contributing eight goals to the landslide victory.
While veteran striker Pyari Xaxa continued her goal-scoring exploits with a hat-trick, it was debutant Lynda Kom Serto who stole the limelight with an astonishing four goals. Neha and Kajol Dsouza chipped in with two goals each, while Sangita Basfore, Sorokhaibam Ranjana Chanu, and Rimpa Haldar added their names to the scoresheet.
The Blue Tigresses were a force of nature throughout the match, leading 8-0 at halftime. This dominant performance marks one of the biggest victories in the team's history, surpassed only by the 18-0 triumph over Bhutan in the 2010 SAFF Championship.
