Reaper – once a hardened and highly respected veteran, the ex-Overwatch leader has fallen low since his glory days fighting alongside Jack Morrison as part of Overwatch’s original and first Strike Team. Even after being passed over for official recognition of his Overwatch work when Morrison was appointed Overwatch’s first official Commander, Gabriel Reyes would hardly have dreamt that he’d become the Reaper – a volatile Mercenary, and a ruthless and remorseless killer. Working with Talon to attempt to retrieve the Doomfist, Reaper is continuing his seemingly relentless pursuit of Overwatch agents with one goal in mind – their systematic elimination.

His in-game voice lines and interactions show off a whole lot more to his character outside of his website biography, and that's what we're exploring in this video, along with more in-depth sources on his back story and lore.

How did the partnership between Reyes and Morrison go so awry? Who may have been responsible for both saving his life, and perhaps even causing Reaper to live with the form he describes as his “Curse”? When he refers to his home, and smog in what might be map-triggered unheard lines, could he be referring to new levels we’ve not yet seen?

Just as importantly, what bands does he draw inspiration from, and exactly how edgy is he on his days off? ;) We try to cover all this and more in a bunch of sound goodness!
