The past relationship between Avalokiteshvara Guan Yin and Buddha Sakyamuni. At that time, Buddha was just an ascetic disciple, before Buddha attained enlightenment. Extract of《The Secret Sutra of the Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva with 1000 Arms and Eyes》
Buddha Sakyamuni said:
Right at this moment, Avalokitesvara（Guan Yin) is about to deliver the teaching. All of you should listen attentively.
I, the Sakyamuni Buddha, recount to you that in the past the Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva became enlightened long before I did. Avalokitesvara’s Buddha title was Zheng Fa Ming Tathagata, complete with all ten titles of a Buddha.
During the time of the Zheng Fa Ming Buddha, I was just an ascetic disciple of Zheng Fa Ming Buddha. Owing to the teachings I received from Zheng Fa Ming Buddha, which transformed me, I attained Buddhahood.
Tathagatas of the Ten Directions have all been taught and guided by Avalokitesvara Guan Yin Bodhisattva . Because of this, they were able to attain supreme enlightenment in excellent Pure Lands and thereby turn the wheels of excellent Dharma. Therefore, you should have no doubts whatsoever but always make offerings to Avalokitesvara and receive Avalokitesvara’s teachings.

今觀世音自在欲說其法。今正其時汝等善聽。
我念往昔時。觀自在菩薩於我前成佛。號曰正法明十號具足。

十方如來皆由觀自在教化之力故。於妙國土得無上道轉妙法輪。 是故汝等勿生疑惑常應供養。
