“I am happy to share the overview of my Sierra Leone meeting with my dear sister, The First Lady of Sierra Leone, H.E. Dr. FATIMA MAADA BIO and The President of Sierra Leone, H.E. Dr. JULIUS MAADA BIO in a formal visit to witness our partnership programs that Merck Foundation started with First Lady of Sierra Leone, H.E. Dr. FATIMA MAADA BIO. We visited the hospital 34 that she established for the people of Sierra Leone, to witness the renovation with high-quality infrastructure and medical equipment. I am looking forward to collaborate through Merck Foundation program and continue our long-term commitment to train young doctors, nurses and technicians especially in oncology to improve access to quality and equitable cancer care.
To date, in partnership with The First Lady of Sierra Leone, H.E. Dr. FATIMA MAADA BIO, Merck Foundation provided 43 scholarships to doctors in 32 critical and underserved medical specialties in Sierra Leone. I met all of them during my visit to acknowledge them as Merck Foundation Alumni and future healthcare experts in their country, most of them are the first in their respective specialty. Together we are making history. I am very proud of them. We are also implementing 'Educating Linda Program' where we will provide scholarships to 20 young girls who are unprivileged but brilliant to continue their education, so they can reach their potential and pursue their dreams.
Together with the First Lady of Sierra Leone, H.E. Dr. FATIMA MAADA BIO, we are creating history in Sierra Leone.”
I was also proud to share about the progress of our ‘Educating Linda’ and “Merck Foundation More Than a Mother” Campaign to support girl education and break infertility stigma respectively”.
I am impressed to witness the high quality and speed of the hospital work. I am looking forward to collaborate through Merck Foundation programs and continue our long term commitment to train young doctors, nurses and technicians especially in Oncology to improve access to quality and equitable cancer care."
