The following day was focused on the environmental impacts of BRT electrification; recommended policy options, and proposed institutional and business models for e-mobility adoption for the public transport system in Indonesia. This second day of the workshop included panelists from the Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Finance, and Regional Planning Agency from both provinces. In total there were 90 attendees who joined this second session.
Key takeaways from this 2-day workshop in regards to e-mobility adoption for BRT system in Greater Bandung and Greater Medan are:
(i) the depot locations for the BRT should be decided in the initial plan of the BRT electrification plan as it affects the charging strategy and operational cost of the BRT;
(ii) the partial electrification scenario for the BRT implementation is preferred by the governments from both metropolitan cities;
(iii) sensitivity analysis results showed that the contract period has an impact on the TCO, and having 15-year contract will reduce the TCO;
(iv) the expected demand from the BRT electrification in both cities still can be accommodated by the current grid supply; and
(v) the government needs to create an attractive environment for the private sector by providing strong direct and indirect incentives, extending contract period with bus operators, adopting a split business model for public transit, and promoting ease of permit for e-mobility adoption.
