Chinese tech company Baidu has gained government approval to operate robotaxis in part of Beijing without any human staff or drivers, eliminating labor costs for up to 10 permitted cars. Baidu's robotaxi operation is based in the Beijing suburb of Yizhuang and is home to many corporations like JD.com. Baidu claims that in major Chinese cities, its self-driving taxis complete more than 15 rides per vehicle per day. Public transport users can book heavily subsidized robotaxi rides through Baidu's app.
