Reactive maintenance is one option we have as a maintenance team. It can be planned or unplanned as discussed in this short video.
This is also known as Run To Failure (RTF).
When equipment breaks down and it does not effect operations, we can defer the work and plan it in for later.
If the breakdown is urgent (operations or safety), we must fix it immediately (corrective maintenance). This is when it impacts our business the most.
We need to prepare for any breakdowns by having a suitable maintenance plan including spare parts, labour and training.
