The Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) militant group organised a military parade in Umayyad Square, Damascus, on Friday, nearly three weeks after taking control of the country.
Footage shows armed men, some wearing masks and others carrying hand-held rocket launchers, surrounding the square. Heavy weaponry can also be seen. They are seen chanting "we seek to raise the banner", "in the path of God, we rise " and "Let religion regain its dignity, and let Sham return to its purity".
While some Syrians have been seen celebrating the militant takeover, media outlets have highlighted instances of harassment by armed groups. A number of sections of society have reported fearing for their safety and security, with the country home to a huge number of different groups and factions.
