Frank G. Jackson, the longest serving mayor in Cleveland history, announced Thursday he will not seek reelection.
The move had been expected for some time, but is still historic as it marks the end of one of the most accomplished political careers in city history. Jackson had served on the City Council for 16 years (including the last four as its president) before being elected mayor in 2005, and is the only holder of the office to win four consecutive four-year terms.
