film shows: scenes at the rome hospital where christian democrat figure mechelli was taken after being shot 11 times in the legs by red brigades gunmen: people reading newspapers, and un secretary-general waldheim making a televised appeal in italian for the release of kidnapped politician moro
lead in: the war of nerves being waged by red brigades extremists against the italian government continued on wednesday (april 26), with an anonymous phone-call falsely announcing the release of kidnapped politician aldo moro, and with another shooting attack on a politician.
police and security forces in cars and helicopters converged on an area south-east of rome after a phone-call saying ~ moro had been found alive in a sack tossed from a speeding car. but it was a hoax call.
anti-terrorist forces have meanwhile intensified their man- hunt for the extreme leftist red brigades kidnappers, circulating 20,000 copies of "wanted" posters for nine people suspected of involvement in the march 16 kidnapping of moro-- when five bodyguards were shot dead.
copies of arrest warrants have been sent to interpol.

commentary: the moro kidnapping naturally continues to dominate italian public life, and the newspapers talk of little else on their front pages.
here is an open letter from the moro family, sending the 61- year-old president of the christian democratic party their love, and appealing for his safe return.
another article refers to the italian-language televised appeal by the united nations secretary-general, dr kurt waldheim, in which he also appealed to the red brigades to free moro.

meanwhile, the grip of fear upon public figures was heightened by another gun attack in rome on wednesday against a politician, girolamo mechelli, who was rushed to a rome hospital.
police said three or four people ambushed the 58-year-old christian democrat, former president of the lazio regional government, outside his home, and then firing 11 bullets into his legs before fleeing. his condition was said to be not serious.
all around rome, police are maintaining road-blocks and searching cars in the hope that red brigades extremists will make a mistake, and give away clues leading to moro's whereabouts. but the red brigades have made remarkably few mistakes so far, and the fate of moro appears to lie entirely in their hands.
