STORYLINE:
The Yugoslav government adopted a decree on Saturday that clears the way for Slobodan Milosevic's extradition to the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague.
Deputy prime minister Miroljub Labus told reporters after the government session that the former Serbian President and other war crimes suspects could be sent to The Hague very soon.
The former president's extradition is a key Western condition for Yugoslavia to receive billions in aid money.
Sources in the government told the Associated Press on condition of anonymity that the decree will take effect on Sunday, after it is published in Yugoslavia's official gazette.
Several hundred Milosevic supporters protested against the decision in front of the Belgrade central prison.
Protesters carried pictures of Slobodan Milosevic and chanted pro-Milosevic slogans.
After a two-hour protest in front of the prison gate, protesters marched through the streets surrounding the main Belgrade prison.
