Hello everyone!
Today I am taking you on a walk across the streets of a beautiful ancient town of Moret-sur-Loing, well known for its Medieval gates, the Donjon, Notre-Dame church and its awesome nature.
The town was the residence of many people who shaped the world in one or other way such as St Thomas Becket, French kings Saint Louis, Philip IV le Bel, François I, art patron Nicolas Fouquet, Napoleon Bonaparte, Alfred Sisley, Marina Tzvetaeva to mention some of them.
Moret was that place where worldwide famous sweets Barley sugar was made for the first time in 1638.

09:46 Notre-Dame de la Nativité 12th Century. The medieval church is a fine example of Gothic architecture, took 3 centuries to build and is a magnificent building. Walking into the church you may see some beautiful stained glass windows. Historians believed that St Thomas Becket (1119-1170) consecrated the church while he was in exile.
11:31 La Maison du Sucre d'Orge or Barley House, also known as the House of the Good Saint-Jacques, Timber framed and limestone 15th Century house. Here in this house was created under the reign of Louis XIII in 1638 in Moret by Benedictine Sisters of Our Lady of the Angels world famous sweet Barley Sugar, a delicate candy whose recipe is the best kept secret for over 300 years. The Saint-Jacques carved on the corner post on the ground floor bears witness to the passage of a pilgrimage route to Compostela.

Castle of Moret was built in 1160 by King Louis VII and since then it was used as a residence for a number of French kings such as Louis VII, Philip II Auguste, Saint Louis or Louis IX, Philip IV le bel, Francois I. During the reign of King Henri IV, the keep was rented out to famous persons, including the Minister of Finance Suli. Henri IV's mistress Jacqueline de Bueil, countess of Moret, also lived in the castle, who changed the interior of the castle. Things turned around and the Donjon dropped from the list of favorite residences and King Louis XIV turned it into a prison. It is famous for the fact that in 1664 Nicolas Fouquet, the influential financial superintendent of the young king Louis XIV, a well-known patron of the arts and the theater, was imprisoned here and kept by the king's guard d'Artagnan. The last person of royal blood to inhabit the château was Marie Lesczinka before she married Louis XV.
