Excalibur #11 is the final issue before X of Swords launches the first major event of the Dawn of X, and finds Apocalypse and the new look Excalibur crew making some final preparations in Otherworld we’re they’re kinda sorta at war with Omniversal Majestrix Opal Luna Saturnyne.
Today I’ll Answer:
+ Who are the Externals and what are their ties to Apocalypse?
+ What, if anything, did we learn about the upcoming X of Swords event?

There are two threads to follow in Excalibur #11, the first documenting the Excalibur unit of Captain Britain (Betsy Braddock), Rogue, Gambit, Rictor, and Jubilee reuniting and making their final – also, finally! – descent on Opal Luna Saturnyne’s Starlight Citadel. The second is all about Apocalypse telling fun stories, and naturally, that’s what I’m here for.
Betsy is still all confused why Saturnyne isn’t welcoming her as Captain Britain, but before they can get to the Starlight Citadel the Excal crew has to save a shot-down Shogo Dragon, and rescue/slash calm down enraged Mom Jubilee. They uncover that there are White / Green factions of Saturnyne followers, which I mean, probably this comes up again in X of Swords considering the next issue of Excalibur kicks off the mega crossover, but boy does it feel like superfluous info coming at a weird time!
After back to back very fun issues, Excalibur #11 was a real disappointment for me, substantially too predictable and focused on slowly setting the scene for X of Swords. Nonetheless, I’m still here for the big picture relevance of the title.
