Who is Bill Gates?
American entrepreneur, software developer, businessman and author Bill Gates was born on October 28, 1955 in Seattle. Gates, who is married and has three children, is one of the founders of Microsoft and is still the technical consultant of the company. Bill Gates, who resigned from his chairmanship at Microsoft in March 2020 in order to devote more time to charitable works, is today among the richest people in the world.
Born as one of three children to a lawyer father and a teacher mother, Gates grew up in a wealthy family. By using this wealth and resources correctly and working hard, he made the "American Dream" a reality. Bill Gates is the only son in the family. He has a sister named Libby and an older sister named Kristianne.
In his education life, he first started public school in North Seattle. He then continued his education at Private Lakeside School. He was only 13 years old when he started to write a personal program simultaneously. Gates, who started at Harvard University in 1973, dropped out in 1975 when he was in the third grade. While at university, he created a version of BASIC, written in 1960, called MITS Altair.
During this period, they set a goal for themselves with Paul Allen, his best friend, who has been interested in the same fields as him since childhood and has always worked with him. Their goal was that personal computers could enter every office and even every home, and be used comfortably by anyone. Considering the point that computer use has reached today, it can be understood that they are quite forward-thinking.
At that time, Bill and Paul were finding software bugs to use a company computer near their home for free. This job helped them become much more proficient with computers. In this way, they established their first company, Traf-O-Data, in 1972. A few years later, Gates interned at an arms company called TRW.
Bill Gates married his current wife, Melinda Gates, on January 1, 1994. They had three daughters named Jennifer Katherine, Rory John and Phoebe Adele from this marriage. Bill Gates, who has the qualities of a leader with a very modest and patient personality, was on the cover of Time Magazine in 1984, 1997 and 1999.
In addition, although he left Harvard University in 1975, he was awarded the Honor Award by this university in 2007. Bill Gates, who is an example to all entrepreneurs with his hard work and determination, and whose words adorn the walls of people's study rooms, also has a book called The Road Ahead, which was published in 1995.
Gates, who was accepted to Harvard University with a very high score thanks to his computer curiosity, started to spend all his time with poker and video games instead of going to classes during his university education. But that changed when his best friend, Paul, showed him an article. Two friends were very impressed with this article about the world's first microcomputer, the Altair 8800.
Thereupon, they contacted MITS, the manufacturer in Mexico, and stated that they had BASIC, a suitable program for Altair. The producers were interested in this program and wanted to try it, but the two friends did not have any program. This caused Gates to return to school, and the two friends began working in the Harvard lab to create the program.
Since they did not have Altair in their hands, they did not know that the software they made could run on this computer. But somehow they got lucky and the program worked as promised. This led Gates to drop out of Harvard completely and go to Mexico. In fact, while in Mexico, Gates was arrested for driving without a license and running a red light.
Shortly after Gates settled in Mexico, the MITS company closed. However, in this process, Allen and Gates had already established a company they called Microsoft in order to sell the BASIC software they developed for Altair to the company. Therefore, the closing of MITS did not affect Microsoft. In fact, Microsoft was providing software services to many companies, including Apple, at that time.
