UK SPOUSE VISA 2021 | How to write Sponsor Cover Letter

I am just a person who went through the UK Spouse Visa process and is sharing the information I gathered through my experience for those who need more information for their own application.

Hello! So for the UK Spouse Visa application process, you might want to include a sponsor cover letter written by your sponsor. This sponsor cover letter ISN’T mandatory but it can act as a supporting document to make your application stronger. It’s also like a summary of your UK visa online application and it explains your relationship to whoever will be making the decision on your visa.

For my application, I included a simple sponsor cover letter written by my husband, and I’ll break it down quickly for you in this video!

In the beginning, we didn’t add any specific location as we didn’t know where the visa application was being sent to, so we addressed it to “To Whom It May Concern”.

Paragraph 1 | Introduction:You can use the first paragraph to introduce yourself (the sponsor), who your spouse is, and what your position is as a citizen/resident in the UK.

For example, “I’m writing this sponsor cover letter to confirm my sponsorship of my spouse, (name of spouse), to join me in the UK with a UK Spouse Visa. I can confirm that I am a (your status in the UK) born in the (location where you were born) and have lived here (period of time you’ve been in the UK).

Paragraph 2 | Employment:
Here, the sponsor can explain their employment situation which includes the type of work they do, where they work, their pay per annum, and what evidence they will provide to prove their employment.

For example, “I’m currently employed as a (job title) working full-time for (company) in (location of city). I started my employment on (date) and have been working here for (amount of years). I currently earn (yearly salary) per year and can confirm this information by providing evidence such as 6/12 months of bank statements, payslips, employment letter and employment contract.

Paragraph 3 | Accommodation:
In this paragraph, you can include a summary regarding the place you and your spouse will be living in.

For example: “Once a decision has been made, we plan to live in (UK address). This property is (explain what your situation is in regards to whether you’re renting the property or whether you own it). I will provide relevant documents like (add whatever documents you think is relevant) to show that this property is being maintained by me.

Paragraph 4: Relationship
In this final paragraph, you can share some details regarding your relationship with your spouse.

For example: “My spouse and I have been together for (amount of years) and have met each other many times as seen by the (list relationship evidence) prior to us getting married. We got married on (state the date and location) as reflected by (list evidence of marriage).

To sign off, don’t forget to sign your name and include a date of when you wrote the letter.

For example: “We hope that you will take our visa application to consideration and we really look forward to hearing back from you with favourable news very soon! Thank you very much. Best regards, (your full name, signature and date)”.

This was basically the format we used for the sponsor cover letter. It’s basically a summary of the whole visa application! I’d say keep it short (within 1 page), straight to the point, descriptive and remember to keep things polite, because you ARE writing to a person.
