David explains the thought process of an addicts brain when confronted with cravings and relapse triggers.
We as drug and alcohol addicts are very smart and we can convince ourselves that we need to use and why we need it. We can always find reasons to justify why. Is it because somebody did something to me? Or we will tell ourselves that because I feel this way, I can use just this once. We start really putting on the logic of our own self will until we find justification to use. The addict who has not learned to tell himself no is probably doomed to go on and do something that's going to be harmful to them.
Cravings are really just this kind of just emotional rush and this mental rush. This feeling that I have to use drugs or drink now. This compulsion to use again can be extremely powerful and alluring. The thought process must really be examining how we can diminish our obsessions, or find ways not to feed our obsessions.
