Occupy Las Cruces invites all members and friends of the Occupation
Revolution to join us for the first in a series of Mic Checks at the Farmers Market this SaturdayFebruary 18, 2012. We will meet up at Albert Johnson Park (our former beloved campsite) at 11 a.m. and do a quick run-through of events. We will then walk (or drive, if you prefer) to the Farmers Market where we will gather outside the Southwest Environmental Center (SWEC) at 11:30 to present the first Mic Check. (two additional Mic Checks are being considered in order to effectively canvas the entire Farmers Market)
This event is not a protest, but a "thank you" to the citizens of Las Cruces for their continuing and growing support of the Occupy Revolution. It's also a recruiting drive, as informational flyers will be given to interested spectators. Finally, this Mic Check solidifies our intent to pressure those in power to bow to the will of the 99 percent.
The event will be videotaped and uploaded to our Facebook page, our website, and YouTube. Hopefully, we will gain national exposure due to the fact that this is probably the gentlest Mic Check since the Occupy Revolution began. We're not doing this in anger. We're doing this with Love.
If you prefer, you may meet us at SWEC at the Farmers Market at approximately 11:30 if you can't meet at the park by 11.
This promises to be a fun event, the first of its kind at the Farmers Market, so don't miss it.
Below is the script for Saturday's Mic Check. This script, which will include our Facebook and Occupy Las Cruces website contacts, will be distributed to interested spectators in the hope that they too will let their voice be heard at this historic event. See ya there!

To the citizens and city officials of Las Cruces,
We thank you
For the manner in which you have accepted
And supported
The Occupy Revolution.
Indeed
This is a revolution
One that is long overdue
Because we know
That you know
That business-as-usual
Is no longer acceptable.
Today,
Occupy Las Cruces stands with you
The 99 percent
Who believe we need to raise awareness
Of the need for more jobs
Fairer tax laws
Bank reform
And a reduction of the influence
Of corporations on our political,
Economic,
Educational,
And health care systems.
Today's mic check
Is the first of many mic checks
As Occupy Las Cruces
Exercises its right to free speech
As guaranteed by the First Amendment.
To quote the Las Cruces Sun-News -
"We cherish the right to free speech
That was handed down by our Founding Fathers.
The right to peacefully assemble
In support of or opposition to our government
Is something we hold dear."

In creating a better future for ourselves,
