Tenants who owe back rent and face eviction because of the pandemic can apply for eviction protection and rental assistance but they must do so by Wednesday, Dec. 15. Thousands could be shielded from eviction. The problem is that many tenants don't know about the program or falsely believe they're automatically protected.
