Despite knowing the sun would be in my face until the afternoon, I couldn't resist heading to Collier Yard on Saturday morning to see what CSX was cooking. I was rewarded with a closer look at the resident switching pair of SDs than I got on the last visit, when I watched them back across Vaughan Road on their return from Chaparral Steel (see 'Yard Work'). Rebuilt YN1 SD40 8320 (ex-L&N) and YN3 SD40-2 8131 (ex-Clinchfield) had another gon in hand this weekend, this time a delivery for the galvanizing plant across Halifax Road (maybe the load came from Chaparral?). The crossover and reverse moves required to get to the spur allowed plenty of time to admire 8320's YN1 scheme and listen to the turbocharged 645's rev up and down.
