Biology Dictionary: Defining the term Aerobic Respiration
Biology Definition: - Aerobic Respiration | Respiration in which foods (typically carbohydrates) are completely oxidised to carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O) releasing chemical energy. i.e. the breakdown of glucose in the presence of oxygen (O2) to produce chemical energy. The equation can be summarised as: - C6H12O6 + 6O2 --- 6CO2 + 6H2O + Energy. Most organisms are aerobes with exception of particular bacteria and yeasts. (compare with anaerobic respiration).
