Dr. Sepideh Gholami, MD, MAS, is a board-certified surgeon scientist specializing in complex general surgical oncology and hepatopancreatobiliary surgery. She earned her master’s degree in clinical research from the University of California, Davis, where her thesis focused on colorectal cancer's tumor and immune microenvironment using an ex-vivo 3D model to identify drug combinations for better clinical trial translation.
Her expertise in vaccine and targeted therapies began during her postdoctoral fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She conducted cell signaling studies and developed an orthotopic metastatic mouse model, leading to national scientific presentations and awards. During her clinical fellowship, she researched molecular markers and predictors of response to locoregional therapy in colorectal liver metastases. As an assistant professor at the University of California, Davis, she led translational research on targeted therapies and chaired the Multi-Disciplinary Hepatobiliary Tumor Board.
In 2022, Dr. Gholami joined Northwell Health as the director of the Liver Multidisciplinary Clinic and Hepatic Artery Infusion Pump Program, and the director of Translational Research in Surgical Oncology. She also holds an adjunct associate professor position at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, leading research on colorectal cancer’s tumor and immune microenvironment to develop novel immune-augmenting therapies.
A national leader in hepatobiliary malignancies, Dr. Gholami co-chairs the colon subcommittee for the Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG), is a member of the NCI Colon Cancer Task Force, and serves on the ASCO Advanced Colon Guideline Expert Panel. Her numerous peer-reviewed publications and prestigious awards, including the K12 Paul Calabrese Career Development Award and SWOG’s Young Investigator Award, highlight her contributions.
