Here's my video on how to break down an AR 15. If you've never owned one of these rifles before or if you have just purchased one, you're probably wondering how you're supposed to field strip it so you can clean it after shooting. Well, it's actually a really easy rifle to field strip, and I'm going to explain for you how to do it in 5 easy steps. So give me your full attention because here it is. Step 1, check the condition of your rifle. You see, when handling any gun, safety goes before anything else. So you have to make sure your rifle is clear before attempting to break it down. And to do that the first thing you need to do is remove the magazine. And after that, you want to pull back on the charging handle to inspect the chamber. Now you can just pull it back a little bit and peek inside to see if your chamber is empty or you can lock it back completely for a full inspection. Either way, you're going to want to make sure your bolt goes forward before moving on to the next step. So Step 2, push out your takedown pins. Your rifle has 2 takedown pins which you need to push out. The go from right to left and they are captive so they won't pop out all the way. When you push through the rear pin your rifle will hinge open, and when you push through the forward pin your upper receive will be completely separate from your lower receiver. Step 3, Remove the bolt and carrier. Ok, you're all done with your lower. So you can put it to the side and focus on your upper. Pull your charging handle and bolt carrier out about halfway, and then just pull your carrier out. Now your charging handle will still be there so just continue pulling it until its able to drop free. Step 4, remove your firing pin. From here take your bolt carrier and pull out the small firing pin retaining pin. You might be able to pull it out with your fingers, but if not, just use a small pick to pry it out. After that, your firing pin should just fall out of the carrier. And Step 5, remove the bolt from the carrier. So here you want to make sure your bolt is pushed in and then turn the cam pin and pull it out. Then simply pull your bolt free, and your rifle is fully field stripped. Now all you have to do to reassemble is reverse the process. So put your bolt back in the carrier making sure the extractor is facing out. Line up your cam pin with the hole, put it in and then turn. Drop your firing pin back into its channel and replace the retaining pin. Put your charging handle back into place and slide it down halfway. Line up your bolt carrier group and slide it all home. And connect the upper and lower by snapping your takedown pins in place. And that's it, that's all you need to do to field strip and reassemble an AR 15.
